Former Prime Minister Deuba said this while speaking in a meeting with party cadres organised by the Nepali Congress District Working Committee, Ilam today.

“The constitution writing process would proceed ahead simultaneously with talks with the opposition alliance, and the Nepali Congress is in favour of a constitution based on consensus,” he reiterated.

He also stated that the Questionnaire Committee constituted by the Constituent Assembly would not be revoked as demanded by the UCPN (Maoist), stating the CA meeting has been halted for some days for only forging consensus.

The NC senior leader accused the 30-party alliance led by the UCPN (Maoist) was merely bargaining.

Stating the Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has already called the 30-party opposition alliance to talks, leader Deuba also urged the alliance to come to the negotiating table. “We cannot wait for many days if they [the opposition alliance] do not come to talks,” he said, adding the new constitution would be promulgated by the incumbent government and under the NC’s leadership.

The NC senior leader said his party was ready to exercise maximum flexibility in constitution writing and expressed dismay over the opposition alliance not coming to the negotiating table despite the call for the same.
