Swiss Govt To Provide Rs 580 m To Govt Of Nepal

Kathmandu, Nov 25,2014: The Government of Switzerland has agreed to provide Rs 1.1 billion (Swiss Francs 9.998 million) grant for the implementation of Trail Bridge Sub Sector Programme, Phase IV and Rs 580 million (Swiss Francs 5.8 million) for the implementation of River Protection works and Livelihood Improvement in Chitwan district Phase II to the Government of Nepal, the Ministry of Finance stated in a press release today.

Madhu Kumar Marasini, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Jean-Francois Cuenod, Charge d’ Affaires, Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Cooperation of SDC, Embassy of Switzerland in Nepal, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective Governments in the Finance Ministry today.

With the grant, 2,500 trail bridges will be constructed and 5,000 trail bridges will be maintained annually. The programme will cover across the country and implemented for the period of five years from October 2014 to July 2019.

The project will benefit 187,000 people in the flood plains of downstream 16 VDCs in the district will be protected through constructing river protection infrastructures by local communities.
