UCPN (Maoist) leaders discuss leadership handover at CC meeting

Kathmandu, 28 Dec 2014: UCPN (Maoist) senior leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai has said that he wished to be the party chairman as per the proposal of party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal though he never craved for the executive post in the party.

Reasoning that leadership handover was his demand for long past to lead the party in the changed context and internalize the sentiments of all, Dr Bhattarai said that process for leadership handover would begin from the special general convention of the party to be held next year.

Speaking at the party central committee (CC) meeting on Sunday, Dr Bhattarai made such statements on the political report of party chairman Dahal.

Party spokesperson Dinanath Sharma said that chairman Dahal has incorporated the issues of party’s general convention, organizational and political clarity and leadership handover.

In his report, Dahal has proposed to elect Dr Bhattarai as the party chair by stepping down himself from the main leadership.

It is learnt that the party leaders expressed their mixed reactions on the fresh proposal of party chairman.

Standing Committee member Janardan Sharma on Sunday lodged a ‘note of decent’ at the party central office expressing reservation on Dahal’s proposal.

Sharma has argued that leadership handover process was linked to ideology and has demanded intensive discussions on the issue pertaining to leadership handover.

Likewise, party vice-chairman Narayankaji Shrestha has said that the leadership handover should be linked to ideological paradigm and should not be made an issue of give and take only.

Spokesperson Sharma said that the meeting shall resume at 11:00 am on Monday.
