Gaur (Rautahat), Oct 8: Nepali Congress (NC) central member and former Minister Mahammad Aftab Alam has termed an agitation warned by the UCPN (Maoist) and Madhesi front meaningless.

Talking to media persons at his residence at Rajpur Pharhadawa of Rautahat Wednesday, the ruling party leader said the agitation announced by the UCPN (M) and Madhesi front when the constitution writing is on the progress would prove an unfortunate turn for the country and is against the spirit of thirty-million people.

The UCPN (Maoist) and the front have warned of an agitation if the ruling parties opt for voting in the Constituent Assembly to settle the contentious issues in the constitution-making.

He was here to celebrate the Bakar Id festival.  He accused the UCPN (M) and the Madhesh centric parties of intending to obstruct the constitution-drafting just for petty interests.

Although the Congress has urged them for a consensus on the disputed issues in the constitution-making, they never became serious towards such requests, he said. “There is no alternative before the political parties to promulgate a new constitution within coming January 22,” he said, adding the CA would deliver a constitution on the slated time even by going through a process if consensus on the disputed matters was not forged.

The UCPN (M) and Madhesi parties would be compelled to accept a new constitution after it gets an international recognition.

Responding to a query of journalists, he said Dr CK Raut came on the scene with a new modus operandi to distract the Madhesi leaders from the constitution drafting process.
