Kathmandu, Sept 1: Among the total persons that disappeared during the more than a decade-long insurgency 1,347 are still missing. During the insurgency 3,777 persons were recorded to have disappeared.

The record of those still unaccounted for is mentioned in a report titled ‘Nepal’s Disappeared People: Latest List 2071’. The report was released at a programme here today jointly held by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Nepal Red Cross Society on the occasion of International Day of the Disappeared. The report was made public so as to give public recognition to the families of the disappeared persons, and to remind the concerned side of their pain and needs.

In the programme, Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Narhari Acharya said that the Ministry had given top priority to finding out the whereabouts of the missing people. Minister Acharya recalled that he was also made to disappear during the historic uprising in 2062/2063 BS. Nepal Red Cross Society General Secretary Devratna Dhwakha said that the Red Cross had been playing the role of a bridge to transfer the subject of the disappeared to the concerned bodies.
