ACTIVISTS PROTEST ON NO APPOINTENT OF LAWMAKER FROM DALIT COMMUNITY

Kathmandu, Sept 3: The Dalit Civil Society on Wednesday staged a sit-in before the Constituent Assembly (CA) building for not appointing representatives from the Dalit community in of 26 nominated seats for CA members. Jagaran Media Centre, Samata Foundation and Dalit NGOs staged the protest for an hour from 1:00 pm.  Out of the 26, 17 lawmakers have been appointed by the Council of Ministers.

The lawmakers appointed included eight each from Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) and one from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP)-Nepal. Addressing the gathering, activist Padma Sundas expressed concern over the failure of the government to appoint anyone from the Dalit community. They voiced for the inclusion of people from Dalit community as well.
