Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital to receive telepathy machine worth Rs.1,200,000

Kathmandu, May 13, 2018: Bhaktapur cancer hospital is set to receive Bhabhatron Radioactive Cobalt-60 teletherapy machine from the Indian government. The announcement about the gift from the Indian side was made by the Indian Prime Minister while on his official state visit to Nepal.

Ishwor Shrestha, director at Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital, informed that Bhabhatron cobalt is the medical use of gamma rays from the radioisotope cobalt-60 to treat cancer. He also added that the hospital was in need of radiotherapy machine as the number of patients expecting treatment was very high but the hospital couldn’t cater to them all in time. He said he was hopeful that the additional machine would help provide timely and effective treatment to cancer patients.

He further added, “Patients have been waiting for as long as three months to receive treatment. Earlier, we had requested Indian Embassy to provide the machine,” he added. He further said that the hospital was planning to provide the machine.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was here in Nepal on a two-day state on 11th and 12th of May this year.
