Rautahat, July 12, 2016: A district level security mechanism led by Chief District Officer Nara Hari Baral today monitored the unabated logging of trees at Dhansar National Forest Area in Rautahat.

The security mechanism reached the area to take stock of illegal tree felling after a news report about the same was published in yesterday’s edition of The Himalayan Times.

Shuva Narayan Yadav, assistant forest officer at Area Forest Office Dhansar, reported to the CDO that he could not stay in his office due to lack of basic infrastructure. “We have no vehicle for patrolling,” said Yadav to CDO Baral.

CDO Baral said the administration would take necessary action against the guilty.

District Forest Officer Bhagawan Gupta said they would arrest the guilty soon. He added, “But the officials at the forest offices try to hide the smugglers. There might be some kind of collusion between forest employees and smugglers.”

Similarly, a team led by Assistant Forest Officer Narayan Karki of Regional Forest Directorate will also begin investigation into the matter soon.
