Dolakha Tourism Promotion Fair Slated To Start On Dec 5

DOLAKHA, 17 NOV 2014 – A tourism promotion fair dubbed DolakhaMahotsav is scheduled to start at Charikot on December 5. Organized by the Regional Hotel Entrepreneurs’ Association, the nine-day fair will offer adventure opportunities like mountain flight, paragliding and horse riding.

According to the association, they have envisaged the fair as a means to publicize Dolakha district in north central Nepal which has much potential for tourism development.

On Friday, the organiser successfully conducted a paragliding pre-test at Bhootpokhari in Bhimeshwor Municipality. Narayan Aryal, managing director of Kathmandu Paragliding and Ghyang Gliding Team, said they would decide whether to continue operations after the fair as per demand. The cost of paragliding has been fixed at Rs 5,500 per flight.

In addition to paragliding, the fair will organise sightseeing tours to adjoining areas of the district. A mountain flight over the Rolwaling mountain chain and Tsho Rolpa Lake will be another attraction. The excursion which will be conducted by Shree Air will cost around Rs 6,000 per person.

President of the Regional Hotel Entrepreneurs’ Association Sundar Karki said horse riding would be offered to sightseers visiting nearby places like Kalinchok. Likewise, the organiser will be providing training to rafting lovers. According to the organiser, visitors will be offered a 10-km rafting trip from Singati-Khimti.

“The introduction of adventure sports will help to attract more visitors mainly from the Western countries,” said Karki.

The event, which will be held under the theme Sundar Dolakha , Samriddha Dolakha li: Dolakha Mahotsav for Tourism Promotion, has also planned to display accessories related to computer use, agriculture, cooperatives and entrepreneurship development besides offering cycling and trekking. Similarly, it will show programmes related to local arts and culture.

The event is expected to involve more than 100 district-based organisations, local visitors and tourists from neighbouring countries. As per the organiser, they will publicize the event by highlighting popular destinations in the region like Rolwaling valley, Dolakha Bhimsen, Kalinchok, Jiri, Lamabagar, Shailung and Tamakoshi dam side.

Vehicles and guide services will also be made available to visitors. Moreover, local products will be sold at discounted prices during event, the organiser said. The event will be supported by the association’s 32 branch office.
