UCPN (Maoist) leaders discuss leadership handover at CC meeting

Banepa, 27 Dec 2014: Former Prime Minister and UCPN (Maoist) leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai has said that constitution on January 22 was possible if the Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), UCPN (Maoist) and Madhes-centric parties forged consensus on the contents of the new constitution.

Inaugurating the district convention of Revolutionary Journalists Association Kavre on Saturday, Dr Bhattarai said the major political forces should prepare a common framework for constitution on the basis of past agreements and pacts. “The new constitution could be drafted on the same basis,” he added.

The UCPN (Maoist) leader said that political polarization was likely after the new constitution, but consensus among the major four forces was inevitable prior to constitution promulgation.

“Constitution should be written on January 22. We must have maximum efforts for the same,” he said.

Dr Bhattarai added that the new constitution should ensure the demands of women, Dalit, indigenous, suppressed community. “Otherwise, situation would be created for another revolution,” he argued.
