Mugu, Aug. 17: People in different five VDCs in Mugu district have been deprived of communication services. The Nepal Telecom and NCell have provided communication services in 15 different VDCs in the district and have yet to work to expand their services in the entire district. The VDCs including Magri, Pulu, Kimri, Dolfu, and Mugu of Karan area in the district have to communication services due to indifference of the companies concerned though locals have been exerting pressure to provide an access to the service.

“We wrote to the NT and Ncell to install telephone towers at the Karan area to connect the VDCs to the services but the officials did not respond,” said Purna Bahadur Rokaya, a local from Magri VDC-4 in the district.

People here have to walk for two days and to reach Gamgadi and Kimri to take the telephone service, he added.  Meanwhile, the Mugu folks are compelled to pay Rs 600 for a Sim Card and Rs 150 for a recharge card, as they were not easily available in the district, said Tasi Lama of Kimri.

Of the 55,286 population in the district, a total of 5,396 people are still not getting the telephone service.
