The programme was successful on capacity building of enthusiastic youths on the issues of climate change and Sustainable Development Goals

Butwal, June 6, 2017: The three days long ‘National Youth Convergence’ has come to an end in Butwal with the shared commitment of protecting, conserving and promoting our natural resources and fighting together to stop climate change. The delegates in the programme will pursue this by carrying out action plan and policies they prepared during the national conference on Climate Change and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

CliMates Nepal had organized the national level programme in collaboration with Youth for Conservation and Sustainable Agriculture (YCSA), on the occasion of World Environment Day-2017 The programme sought to address the theme of the world environment day, “Connecting people to the nature” and make youths aware of climate change issues, SDGs, and finding the impacts of climate change on their agricultural practices as there is no any corner of the world untouched that climate change and its adversities haven’t left.

The programme saw the participation of youths from various 16 districts across the nation. The event gave a clear idea about the youth’s perception of climate change, its major impacts in agriculture and livelihood of resource-poor marginal people, ultimately help them better understand the issues of climate change in global scenario and uplift their livelihood through climate smart living practices. The discussions and workshop sessions were facilitated by climate change & SDGs experts.

Sharing her experiences from the programme, Rakshya Aryal, one of the participants said, “It was really a life changing experience for me attending the programme. I really liked the idea of providing the Art of Living motivation sessions in the early morning to prepare us both physically and mentally for the whole day. It was my first participation in such national level programme, and I found it really fruitful as the guest speakers had given us genuine facts/figures on their respective topics.” She further shared, “I hope CliMates Nepal will continue organizing such programmes in coming days as well so that students like me and others concerned towards climates related topics would get to meet the like-minded people and work together.”

The other participant in the programme, Sagar Aryal said, “Introductory games on the first day was awesome as it is the best way to know the name of all the delegates. Evening leisure time was utilized properly by playing games and giving the floor to showcase the talent of delegates. I had a great time during entire convergence meeting the youths from various parts of the nation, and getting prepared for coming days to fight against climate change.”

The national youth convergence was successful to build the knowledge and capacity of enthusiastic youths on the issues of climate change and the global scenario. Different ideas were identified and discovered for either mitigating or adopting with the effect of climate change and action plans were prepared to achieve SDGs for global climate action.
