Chautara, Aug. 27: Opening of a track as an alternative road service to the Araniko Highway at Ramche-5 of Sindhupalchwok district has been completed. The Highway was damaged by the massive landslide at Jure of Ramche-5 in the district on August 2.

Some 700 containers loaded with readymade garments, shoes, and electronics heading to Kathmandu from Khasa and Tatopani customs have been left stranded on the road for 27 days since the devastating landslide at Jure.

The opening of the track was initiated by the Road Division Office Dolakha, and industrialists from both sides- dam site and Bahrabise. Engineer at the Road Division Office, Arun Kumar Shreevastav said, “The track is likely to come into operation after a day or two.”

The alternative road service is six meters wide and stretches 3.3 km from Bahrabise to the dam created by the landslide. Lowering of grading on the track is underway, added the engineer. According to him, it would take some Rs 150 million to control landslide at Jure again.
