LIBRARIES DEVELOPING READING HABIT IN STUDENTS IN MYAGDI

Beni (Myagdi), Oct 10: Establishment of community schools in Myagdi district has reportedly led to development of reading habit in the students of the schools.

Students are now utilizing their free time for reading books other than their regular text books.

Presently library has been set up in 99 community schools while books have been donated to other 14 schools, according to Library Coordinator of Gaja Youth Club Hari Krishna Gautam.

With support from Room to Read, the Gaja Youth Club in Baglung has already set up libraries in the 99 schools, including support of furniture and books.

“Our goal is to ultimately set up a library in every community school in the district”, says Gautam.

The establishment of library in our school had improved the reading habit of our students, with many becoming regular members of the library, said Principal of Bal Jagrit Primary School Bhakta Karki.

He however said that there was need to further expand the library in terms of resources and accessibility.

Apart from setting up the libraries, the Club has also been promoting reading activities including oration, independent reading, group reaching and campaigning reading, said Club coordinator Gautam.
