LOCALS THRONG TO COLLECT YARSAGUMBA IN MYAGDI

Myagdi, May 17: Locals of upper region of the Myagdi district are now busy in collecting Yarsagumba (Cordyceps sinensis).

Locals of Gurja, Mudi, Lulang, Malkabang, Kuinemangale, Chimkhola and Dana VDCs in the district leave the village for collecting Yarsagumba from mid-April to mid-June in every year.

Locals in the hilly areas in some districts are now busy in collecting the medicinal herbs, Yarsagumba as it is costly in the national and international markets for different medical purposes, according to locals.

This time is a peak season for locals to pick and sell Yarsagumba, said Rim Paija, a local of Chimkhola.

The people go in the upper belt in the district to pick the medicinal herb thinking to improve their economic condition as a piece of Yarsagumba is sold at Rs 300 to 500 in the localities. People from neighbouring districts Baglung, Parbat, Dhading, Rolpa and Dolpa have also thronged the areas to collect Yarsagumba.
