REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE WORK OF EASTERN EMBANKMENT OF KAMALA

Golbazaar (Siraha), Aug.17: Repair and maintenance work of the collapsed eastern embankment of Kamal River has been started. The river lies at the border of Siraha and Dhanush districts.

The Water-Induced Disaster Prevention Division Office, Dhanusha, has started repair and maintenance work after water level in the river decreased, said Engineer at the Office, Krishnananda Jha.He said that the floods in the river on Thursday morning had collapsed around 90 meters embankment and it would take more than one week to construct the embankment.Superintendent of Police, Purna Chandra Joshi, said that water-level in the river has decreased and the life of Siraha district is being normal.

With this, the flood-affected people have started to return home. Some 3,000 families of more than one dozen of VDCs including Shashwor, Chikana, Bhokraha, Bishnupur Prara, Madar and Majhauliya were affected due to the flood, said Programme Coordinator of the District Red Cross Society, Siraha, Ashok Yadav.

Around 500 families were displaced. The flood had swept away two people. Although locals and police personnel have carried out search for the missing, they have not been able to find out the missing yet, said police.
