Baglung, 7th February, 2015 : The commercial mushroom farming has gained pace here after the youths are attracted to this venture citing the availability of market and low production cost.

The youths earlier engaged in cereal production and foreign employment are now opting for mushroom farming making it commercial, said the District Agriculture Development Office.

 

For this, 20 youths have got government grants. Every youth has been provided Rs 40,000 to boost their business, said Biplav Prasad Adhikari, Agriculture Extension Officer.

 

There are two kinds of mushroom – sitake and kanne.

 

The youths were selected viewing their active involvement in the farming.

 

Officer Adhikari said the proposal was sought from the aspiring candidates and selected on merits. To get the grants, they had to have at least four plastic houses for the mushrooming cultivation.

 

The grants were provided in installments.

 

According to the Office, the youths especially the ones returned from foreign employments are engaged in the mushroom farming.
