Kathmandu, 27th january, 2015 : A condolence assembly was organised at Sifal in Kathmandu today in memory of martyr Dharma Bhakta Mathema.
At the programme organized to mark the Martyrs Day, various speakers stressed that physical infrastructures should be constructed in the name of martyr Mathema.
Coordinator of the Martyrs Week Main Organising Committee and Executive Officer of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), Purna Bhakta Tandukar, said that the KMC would request the government to carryout concrete works in the name of Mathema, saying he sacrificed his life for the freedom of people.
Similarly, martyr Mathema’s daughter, Renu Mathema Shrestha, talked about the contribution made by her father for people’s freedom.
Chairman of the Mathema Samajik Guthi, Pushpa Ram Bhakta Mathema, expressed the view that the state should be clear regarding the definition and respect of martyrs.
Stating that out of four martyrs, construction of public places is remaining only in the name of martyr Mathema, Pashupati Bhandareshwor Sewa Samiti Chairman Ramesh Maharjan urged the KMC to fulfill such need.
On the occasion, the statue of martyr Mathema was unveiled again as it was shifted some 500 meters west from the previous place in course of road expansion drive in Kathmandu.
Mathema, born on Asoj 1, 1966 BS at Ombahal in Kathmandu, was executed at Sifal on Magh 13, 1997 BS.
